Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 1

By schneider

Oh my God. This show has totally fucked my mind senseless after just one episode. I swear.

LOL WUT

Pessimistic teacher tries to commit suicide by hanging from a cherry blossom tree, but is stopped by optimistic high school girl. The contrast is just surreal. Hilarious dialogue ensues. After entering the classroom, pessimistic teacher is shocked to see optimistic high school girl in his classroom — she’s a student of his! The rest of the episode deals with pessimistic teacher preying upon his students with his crazy brand of despair.

DESPAIR!

In this show, it’s all about written kanji, chalkboards and an anonymous bald guy who acts as a Cover-Tom/Kamille/Shmion/Daicensor for the show. So what actually makes it awesome? The art style is experimental but really pretty to look at. Also, one could see himself pausing the show repeatedly to have a glimpse of the random kanji written on the chalkboards. The amount of random absurdity (or random crap if that fits your description better) is staggering. I must be nuts to love this show at first sight, and I don’t even have an idea of what’s going to happen next!

Nozomu Itoshiki, aka Zetsubou Sensei

For those who haven’t watched this show yet, WATCH IT. It has a wonderful way of destroying one’s despair by poking endless fun at it. Talk about reverse psychology.

Here are some of the onsen scenes. Enjoy, lol.

The animation is some of the best I’ve seen in recent seasons. Excellent character designs and splendid use of colour. This was the first of the new summer series to earn a place on my “Actively Following” list; so far none of the others has impressed me enough with just Episode 1.
