Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 3

This show is causing a.f.k. to slow down in releasing Lucky Star subs. Wait, I meant, Lucky Star is slowing a.f.k. down for this show’s releases. LS has gotten itself in a little shitstorm with one of the most blatant attempts at shameless self-promotion. More on that in another entry.

Taken with the subs in context, this scene is full of PEDO and LOL

We get two new characters, Kaere/Kaede Kimura (who is a tsundere with a twist) and… Illegal Immigrant-tan. Kaere is a foreign student with two personalities caused by cultural differences between Japan and the western world (basically, she has a personality that’s predominantly western and another personality that’s predominantly Japanese). Much of this episode’s charm shines through Kaere’s introduction and succeeding fanservice scene. All the while, Matoi is still following Nozomu around everywhere, even in the men’s bathroom.

Illegal Immigrant-tan, on the other hand, is a genki girl who has bought her Japanese name from another student (hence the confusion caused by her answering to a boy’s name). She freely inserts “Maria” in her new name, which probably makes her Hispanic. I don’t really care, because Kaere on her own is just awesome.

Anyways, lots of easter eggs to spot, but the shot of Light from Death Note is the most conspicuous within the episode itself. Other than that, there were some Gurren Lagann quotes, FMA stuff, and a tacky Dear Boys one in the OP itself. But wait, there’s more! If you didn’t get the last few scenes of Kaere after the ED, watch this.

Strawberry panties? I believe I’ve seen that somewhere. Didn’t take the closeup shot for obvious reasons.

This show is shaping up to be the best comedy this season, because of its unique brand of humor and dysfunctional characters. You won’t have a single boring person in the show, all of them have readily identifiable quirks. Really, just the unobtrusive kanji passages strewn around in the background is enough to make anyone’s day. I hope a.f.k. subs episode 4 fast. Screw that other show they’re doing.
