So much for not updating. The term has ended and I have a week-long break to get back on track. Just finishing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1st Gig last night, I plan to marathon the 2nd half of GaoGaiGar, and maybe watch a Makoto Shinkai show to boot. September is shaping up to be a fantastic day for games (the American release of Musou Orochi is two weeks from now, and Another Century’s Episode 3 is already out).
While Lucky Star has pretty much covered everything I don’t expect from it, KyoAni has done it again and gave me a surprise with the last two episodes (21 and 22), albeit a pleasant one. After 20+ episodes of Konata’s incessant rambling, we have… Konata’s incessant rambling still, but overshadowed by more scenes of variety.

The show is improving, at least, thanks to the new side characters. Judging from the previews and this episode’s Lucky Channel, they’ll be appearing more and more often. Which is yay. Also, apparently a.f.k. just took a little longer than expected to sub this show, so I’m back to patronizing their releases (hate Guerrand’s red font).

Why do I like this scene so much?

I am so behind on things. In Gurren Lagann, Rossiu’s actions have caused a shitstorm on the boards I frequent. In Claymore, a couple of lukewarm episodes to start the Northern Campaign arc. There’s even episode 18 of this show already subbed by Guerrand. It seems that a.f.k. has dropped this show after episode 16 in favor of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Guerrand is pretty decent even though they use a bloody-red font that hurts my eyes.

Now, if Lucky Star characters were animated in Haruhi style…

Surprise, surprise. I actually liked the show this time. Anime references are still aplenty but are a lot more subtle. Two new characters are introduced, but they only stick for one scene. Well, back to school, and more Minami for everyone.

Unsurprisingly, there is very little to talk about pertaining to Lucky Star episodes. After you’ve stopped laughing from the gags, that’s it. There’s little sense in dwelling on them unless they contain some obscure reference, and these types aren’t that many anyways. To save space I’ve decided to review episodes 13-14 in one short entry.

Behold your new goddess, Minami.

WARNING: Screencap-heavy post coming up.
After the disappointment that was episode 11, episode 12 brings back the craziness. In this episode, Comiket, and shrine maidens! Plus, Nagato, Kyon and Sousuke to bring you added fun!

So this was the Akira appearance they were talking about last episode.

Boring episode. Really, all that kept me from closing my player was the anticipation of Lucky Channel, and it was disappointingly mediocre. Ho-hum. At least the ED was something every anime fan should immediately recognize.

An accurate depiction of the blogger’s sentiments while watching the show.

Finally, a decent episode. Lots of interesting and funny things to see this time around, and some explanation on the word “tsundere”, c/o Minoru Shiraishi.

New cellphone yo~
This episode’s gags may not exactly induce knee-jerk laughter, but they’re the type that’ll put a lingering smile on your face. Plus, Konata’s got new gags this time around (last episode merely recycled some of her old ones).
